Ms. Cowart, Math Intervention: Welcome to Math Intervention! This class is designed to support students that struggle with mathematics as shown through testing, other data, and/or teacher recommendation. In this class, students receive individualized instruction based on their deficit areas as determined by progress monitoring. Student data is reviewed each quarter to determine progress and if a student is ready to exit the program.
Ms. Wolken, Reading Intervention: Welcome to ELA Intervention class for students in grades 6-8. Literacy skills are the foundation of all learning, and in this class we will strengthen all areas of literacy. We will focus on reading comprehension skills, such as identifying the main idea and supporting details of a text. We will also focus on word-level skill development, including root words, content-area vocabulary, and decoding difficult words. We will use a variety of texts that support deeper learning in science, social studies, and math, as well as enhancing social-emotional skills.
Resource Classes
Ms. Wilt & Ms. Terzis, Resource: This class is designed for students on Individualized Education Plans. We use the Orton-Gillingham Approach to individualize instruction for each student in the areas of reading, writing, and math. The Orton-Gillingham Approach is a direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy when reading, writing, and spelling does not come easily to individuals, such as those with dyslexia. While the Orton-Gillingham approach is designed for reading, writing, and spelling, we have adapted the approach to help students who struggle with math. For students with other areas of difficulty, we use research based strategies to help them in their areas of need. All instruction in our class is adapted to meet the needs of each individual student.
